So, its been quite a while since I've been on DA. Recently, my time has been occupied with watching the Australian Open and other TV programs. I'll soon by uploading a series of photos from a Shin Musha Gundam which I've just completed, so take a moment to check those out if you can.
As of last night, the top two men's players in the tennis world are OUT! Nadal's was a legitimate defeat due to injury, while Federer's was somewhat disappointing to watch. Never before had I seen him miss so many regulation forehands at crucial moments but also the fact that he framed several backhands into the crowd is a worrying sight.
I've been following and marvelling at Federer's "super-human" skills and abilities since 2005. I watched in disbelief when he lost in a classic to Safin at the AO semi-finals that year, where he was literally brought to his knees on match point. But that was completely different from what transpired last night. In those years, you'd really have to beat Federer. Last night, he just gave it away...
Maybe it's age or the evolution of the game, but the way Federer played last night looked like he just didn't want to be there (he seemed to be half a step slower in defence). What ever happened to that raw power and accuracy of his forehand, or the solidity of his backhand.
The sight of one of the world's greatest spectacles is fading fast...
